Barge Attendant - Regular Full-Time

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, accepts reservations and collects fees for use of the Bald Head Island Limited barge system, as well as collects ICE fees on behalf of the Village of Bald Head Island. Reports to the Assistant Transportation Manager.

Essential Functions:
Greets customers for the barge. Monitors traffic flow and directs vehicles to proper staging area for barge loading.
Checks-in customers upon arrival for their barge reservation using the Web Based program ensuring all reservation data is correct and all vehicles are present and paid in full before Barge departure.
Uses various media to collect payments including cash, checks, credit cards, department and management accounts.
Measures vehicles to calculate Barge and ICE fees and charges accordingly.
Issues daily ICE permits on behalf of the Village and monitors permit inventory.
Responsible for accurate accounting of shift cash bank.
Performs administrative duties and compiles data for special projects or reports, as assigned, ensuring completion by specified deadlines.
Answers telephone and makes barge reservations, receives inquires, provides requested information or refers caller to appropriate source.
Maintains daily barge reservation website and monitors available capacity on barge by correctly entering customer information, time of reservation, type of vehicle, length, and commodity on vehicle. If barge capacity is full suggest alternates to the customer that will also meet their needs.
Periodically updates Customer List and Tokens in the program to ensure up to date information.
Enters “Standing Reservations” at least 3 weeks in advance.
Maintains all barge office equipment; reports damaged equipment to department manager.
Communicates reservation changes with Barge Captain and Mate.
Communicates weather delays and schedule changes with customers.
Additional Functions:
Cleans and maintains barge office and immediate grounds surrounding office.
Monitors general condition of Deep Point Barge Landing and reports any issues to department manager.
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent, one year of clerical experience and six months in a position dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (S)
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Basic understanding of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel programs.
Basic understanding of Web Based Programs.
Requires the ability to exert up to 20 pound of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. This type of work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
