Shipping/Receiving Assistant I - Regular Full-Time
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under direct supervision, performs unskilled to semi-skilled work receiving, tracking and delivering supplies and equipment to, and from, the central receiving and shipping facility of Bald Head Island Limited. The position is responsible for unloading supplies, completing and verifying purchase orders, and delivering supplies to the appropriate area of the island/or Company. Scope of customers includes 24 company departments and some third party agencies. Hundreds of pallets of deliverables are distributed each month, ranging from as few as 175 pallets to more than 400 during the peak summer season. The employee may work independently on assigned duties and is assigned independent tasks based on acquired knowledge. Employee is responsible for courteous and effective communication with both vendors and customers at the points of receipt and delivery. The position also assists higher-level personnel engaged in delivering supplies and equipment by use of a truck or other transportation equipment. Employee is responsible for safely operating all equipment and will be required to demonstrate proficiency in operating equipment after undergoing orientation training. Employee must exercise considerable initiative in completing assigned duties. Reports to the Shipping and Receiving Assistant Manager and to the Shipping/Receiving Assistant II.

Essential Functions:
Receives, processes, and distributes supplies and equipment for Bald Head Island Limited and approved third-party customers.
Receives goods and reviews shipment documentation; assists with processing purchase orders, to include recording the content and type of items received.
Delivers or assists in delivering supplies to appropriate area of the company or to approved third party customers.
Loads and unloads company trucks and drives company trucks on/off the company barge. Each month, there are typically 30-50 barge trips, depending upon volume and trucks needed.
Drives and makes prearranged pickups in Southport and Wilmington, or wherever needed.
Maintains vehicle operational and maintenance records as directed, including performing pre- and post-operational equipment checks, and accomplishes operator services on vehicles.
Additional Functions:
Delivers outgoing mail to the US Post Office in Southport.
Assists Hospitality and Marketing Departments at Information Center on a relief or emergency basis. Participates in and assists with special events conducted by Bald Head Island Limited.
Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent and some experience in the safe handling of materials, equipment, and vehicles; fundamental use of computers desired, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (S)
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License without any restriction other than “corrective lenses required”.
Requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Employee will receive Hazardous training regarding the occasional transport of small amounts of
LP Gas, Oxygen, Flammable Gas and Corrosive Acids not to exceed 1001 pounds.
